Woes by any name ...
My name is Mudambi Varada Venkata Anil Krishna ... a name fondly given to me by my parents
with enough in there to cover a couple of generations of my lineage.
I am known as Anil most often, though variations to the appellation include Krishna (the last name), Mudambi (my actual last name),
gult ( u as in "pull" - a queer way of refering to anyone form the state of Andhra Pradesh, India),
muhwaak (MVVAK - my initials), krishnamma (since my purdue email id, krishnma was hard to pronounce),
tubelight (since I usually light up pretty bright ... once I do that is). So what were the woes I was
talking about. Well there is enough material to write an article devoted purely to my name, the confusion
it caused to people (me included) and my opinions on naming a person. So, given the scope of that work, I am considering adding that link only when I have the heart to put it all together.
Personality ...
Surprisingly enough this personality test that I took (on 1/23/2005) at the bbc.co.uk website came up with a pretty accurate description of what I consider my personality to be. You can check it out here.
Background ...
I was born in a town called Bhilai, in central India. This was a township that centered around the largest steel plant in India, the Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP).
My father started working in BSP as an engineer in 1964. He married my mother in 1976. You can read more about my family here. My primary, middle and high schooling was all in Bhilai.
I went to a Steel Plant run government school till third grade and then moved to Delhi Public School (which is actually a private school!). From 1995 to 1999, I had a fantastic time at IIT Guwahati. IIT stand for Indian Institute of Technology, and the campus in north eatern India, at Guwahati, started admissions the same year. So I was the first batch to graduate out of this University! 1999 through 2001 I completed my Master's (MS in ECE) at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. The grassy flatlands of the midwest were a startling difference from anything I had seen before, but were a fabulous way to ease into the new world. In 2001 I started working with IBM at Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. I am going back for my PhD to North Carolina State University starting Fall 2005.
