Tomato Dalcontributed by KavitaIngredients: Toor Dal 1 cup Tomatoes(medium sized)(diced) 1 1/2-2 Mustard seeds 1 tsp Hing a pinch Ginger(diced) 1/2 inch Curry Leaves a few Oil 1- 1 1/2 tbsp Green chillies (finely cut) 2 Turmeric 1/2 tsp Salt to taste Optional Ingredients: Garlic (diced) 1 big clove Lemon juice 2 tsp For garnishing: Cilantro (finely chopped) 1-2 tbsp Method: Wash dal and pressure cook it. In a pan, add oil. After it gets heated up, add hing followed by mustard seeds. Once they start spluttering, add ginger, garlic and green chillies. Once they get roasted properly, add curry leaves. Let it cook for a little time and add tomatoes. Mix well and cook till tomatoes become tender. Keep stirring. You can cover the pan (to cook faster). Once tomatoes are cooked, add the cooked dal and simmer. Add turmeric powder and salt. Let it boil for a few minutes, till all the flavours blend in.Finally, turn off the stove and garnish with cilantro. Add lemon juice after you have turned off the stove, or else, it may get a mild bitter taste. An alternate way is to pressure cook dal and tomatoes together.Then, you can add dal and tomatoes together after curry leaves are added. Also, if you want the dal more spicy, you can add red chilies (whole) after adding mustard seeds, before adding ginger. |
